Composite fillings can be used as an alternative to silver amalgam fillings. Composite fillings are made from a resin and particles that are mixed together. The advantage of composite fillings is that they are naturally white and can be matched to the surrounding teeth. However, composite fillings are less biocompatiable than silver or gold and are generally not as strong as metal fillings. Composite fillings are used more often on front teeth, but some patients prefer composite fillings over silver fillings throughout the mouth.
